Although CBS is not broadcasting the awards itself this year, the network announced today that it’ll celebrate “The 41st Annual Daytime Emmy Awards” with six days of Twitter chats with several of its stars, producers and executives from CBS Daytime’s “The Young and the Restless,” “The Bold and the Beautiful,” “The Talk,” “Let’s Make a Deal” and “The Price is Right.” The chats will take place every weekday beginning Friday, June 13 and running through Friday, June 20, leading up to daytime’s biggest night on Sunday, June 22.
While he isn’t nominated for an Emmy this year, “B&B’s” Sean Kanan kicks things off beginning tomorrow, June 13, which also happens to coincide with his return to the world’s most watched daytime soap opera when his character Deacon Sharpe reunites with his daughter, Hope Logan (Kim Matula). Also taking part in Twitter chats are “Y&R’s” Steve Burton (Dylan McAvoy), Doug Davidson (Paul Williams) and Christian Le Blanc (Michael Baldwin), “B&B’s” Heather Tom (Katie Logan) and Scott Clifton (Liam Spencer), “Deal” model Tiffany Coyne, “Price” executive producer Mike Richards and CBS Daytime Senior Vice President, Angelica McDaniel. “Talk” hosts Julie Chen, Sara Gilbert, Sharon Osbourne and Sheryl Underwood will jump-start Daytime Emmy Week with a live group chat on Monday, June 16.

The term “whirlwind” doesn’t even come close to describing the recent life of “The Bold and the Beautiful’s” Kim Matula (Hope Logan). In addition to accepting “B&B’s” ninth consecutive Golden Nymph award at the International TV Audience Awards during the 54th Monte Carlo Television Festival in Monte Carlo this month and just finishing filming on location in Paris, France, she’s still basking in the recent news that she officially received her very first Emmy nomination!
“The day the nominations came out, I woke up at six in the morning to a phone call from my parents in Texas, and [initially], I was so concerned: I was like, ‘Oh God, who died? What’s happening!’” she says with a laugh. “I was freaking out, but then my mom reminded me that the nominations had come out that morning, and she was so excited to tell me I’d been nominated.”
Though extremely excited for herself, the actress couldn’t help but immediately think of her good friend and co-star, Linsey Godfrey (Caroline Spencer), who was also nominated in the category of Outstanding Younger Actress for this year’s awards. “I’m so excited that we’re both first nominated together in the same year,” she enthuses, adding that it’s not at all uncomfortable to be competing against someone she’s so close with. “It can be hard for some people, but I feel like Linsey and I have always had such a great relationship with each other; we always want the best for the other person. For instance, if we get audition notices for something, and we think that the other person would be good for it, we’ll send them the audition, like, ‘Hey, you need to go out for this! I’m going out for it on Friday, and you need to go out for it, too!’ You’re not supposed to do that, right? Because it’s more competition! But we just want to see the other one succeed, so it’s really not weird. It’s great.”
However, while Godfrey chose to submit comedic scenes, Matula entered the race with dramatic material. “I submitted the clips where Hope and Liam [Scott Clifton] are in Brooke’s [Katherine Kelly Lang] cabin, and it’s basically the end of their engagement,” she explains. “Hope took off her engagement ring and is very upset, because Liam sent a video to Steffy [Jacqueline MacInnes Wood], and Liam is trying to convince Hope to put her engagement ring back on.”
And, as the actress explains, choosing those scenes was a no-brainer. “This was actually the first year where it really wasn’t all that difficult,” she says. “The scenes were far more intense and emotional than I anticipated, because you know, Hope and Liam have had so many breakup scenes, that it’s like, when you’re reading it, you’re like, “Ok, ok, they’re breaking up again. Great.” But when we filmed them, it was really interesting: They were very emotional and raw, and I couldn’t stop myself from crying during those scenes. And it was just naturally happening. And so I just felt like those were good scenes, because they were so real for us when we were shooting them, and they happened very organically, which was really nice.”
As for what made this breakup different from the numerous other splits the onscreen couple has experienced, Matula says it was her alter ego’s placement within the drama. “This was the first real breakup where Hope was no longer on the outside. Hope was now the man in the middle,” she explains. “Liam walked in on her and Wyatt [Darin Brooks] kissing, and generally, it’s the other way around: Generally, Hope is walking in on Liam and Steffy kissing! So this was different. It was definitely tables being turned, and Liam kind of getting a taste of his own medicine a little bit.”
Matula may not have had a tough time narrowing down her own Emmy scenes, but she admits that certainly wasn’t the case when it came to voting, which she did for the Lead Actor category. “That was a lot on my shoulders!” she says with a laugh. “There were so many incredible scenes, and it was hard to choose! It’s really important to stay unbiased. That’s really what voting is. You love somebody, but there are so many amazing actors out there, that you really have to go on the talent and what they brought to the table in their scenes.”
Though admittedly, if she could have had it her way, Don Diamont (Bill Spencer) would have been on the final nominee list. “I was a little surprised that he wasn’t, just because he works really, really hard and I think it shows,” she says. “So I was a little surprised that he wasn’t on the ballot. But there are so many fantastic actors, that I know it’s really difficult to choose. And I’m really proud of everyone on our show who was nominated. We got a lot of really good ones this year.”
As for what to expect come the online Emmy broadcast this Sunday, June 22, Matula teases that the red carpet will be sizzling. “I’m going to keep the details of my dress a surprise, but I will say that it’s a color that I’ve never worn before on the carpet, and it’s a very sexy dress,” she says. “I felt like I wanted to be sexy. Sexy and fierce!”
In 2013, “The Bold and the Beautiful’s” Kim Matula (Hope Logan) and Linsey Godfrey (Caroline Spencer Forrester), “General Hospital’s” Kristen Alderson (nominated for her portrayal as Starr Manning), “One Life to Live’s” Kelley Missal (Danielle Manning) and “The Young and the Restless'” Hunter King (Summer Newman) proved they were the outstanding younger ladies for their respective daytime dramas. On Sunday, June 22, they now compete with each other to find out which of them was the most Outstanding Younger Actress in a Daytime Drama Series during “The 41st Annual Daytime Emmy Awards.”

“The Bold and the Beautiful’s” Kim Matula (Hope Logan) was nominated for Outstanding Younger Actress during the 41st Annual Daytime Emmy Awards, but that wasn’t all that made the actress shine while she walked the red carpet. Read on to find out why she was practically glowing!
Soap Opera Network: You told me you’d be sexy on the red carpet, and you sure delivered!
Matula: Yeah, it is sexy and kind of Grecian. I like it!
The designer is BCBG, correct?
Yes, this is BCBG, and you know, I’ve never worn white before, and I wanted something that was kind of sexy and fitted, and I thought this was perfect.
So what did you do today leading up to the red carpet?
I laid in bed as long as I could this morning. I got out of bed at like 11:30 and then jumped in the shower and started getting ready. Well, my boyfriend surprised me with breakfast in bed. I woke up and he had gone to the grocery store, and I woke up to him saying “Good morning!” and giving me breakfast.
That is so sweet! What did he make for you?
Well when we were [filming] in France last week, all I ate for breakfast was lox and mozzarella, and that’s all I’ve been wanting in my life lately, so he went out and got me lox and mozzarella balls and some Starbucks. He’s amazing.
I’ll say! What a great way to start your day, too!
It was perfect.
That is the breakfast of real champions.
Exactly!
Do you have any good luck charms on you tonight?
Nope, no good luck charms. I’ve been in a very positive mood all day, and I think that’s maybe good.
Are you nervous?
I’m not that nervous. Not right now. I’m so focused on doing the red carpet and getting through this without sweating! That’s what I’m focusing on, and then I’ll move on to the next.
Obviously, besides yourself, who do you think should take home an Emmy tonight?
Oh my gosh, I would love for everyone on our show to take home an Emmy. But you know, Linsey [Godfrey, Caroline Spencer] is nominated in the same category, and Heather [Tom, Katie Logan] and Kelly [Katherine Kelly Lang, Brooke Logan] are nominated in the same category, so it makes it hard! I would love to see all of us win. And Scott [Clifton, Liam Spencer], I’d love to see Scott win tonight as well, obviously.
Why would you say your show deserves to take home the award for Outstanding Drama Series?
Oh my gosh, we work so hard. We work really hard on our show, and we travel a lot. We put a lot into that, a lot of thought into us traveling, and I think it means a lot to all of the countries that we air in, and I think that’s definitely something to look at.
There’s no doubt that the Daytime Emmy Awards play a large part of the daytime industry, but just how prevalent is the golden statue when it comes to the every day work lives of the people who make up the genre? Soap Opera Network spoke with performers, writers, producers and more to get their take on how often and how much the Emmys impact their work lives. Does the event and its promised accolades inspire them to work harder? Do they keep the Emmys in mind when filming, writing and performing scenes? And are the Emmy awards really necessary for the industry? There are varying opinions, so read on to find out what some of the genre’s heavy hitters had to say!
Basically everyone in daytime gets sucked into the glitz and glamour that comes along with the Emmys, but whether or not the system is important in the day-to-day is debatable, especially when it comes to whether or not the process inspires people to work harder in order to get recognition. “I think the Emmys definitely challenge you to want to do better work and strive to kind of push yourself,” opines “The Bold and the Beautiful’s” Linsey Godfrey (Caroline Spencer), who was nominated for her first award this year. “For me, it was like, ‘Wow, this is so amazing, and what an honor to be nominated with all of these wonderful people and people who I think are wonderful.’ Because I definitely feel for me, it makes me want to try harder, and if I don’t win, then to maybe get nominated again the next year, something like that.”
Adds “The Young and the Restless’” Cady McClain (Kelly Andrews; ex-Dixie Cooney, “All My Children”): “We all feel the anticipation building up to the [Emmy] weekends, and I think people get much more excited, kind of thinking about, even if they’re not up for an Emmy this year, they think, ‘Well, maybe I should try a little harder or do a bit better for next year.’”
And even Bradley P. Bell, executive producer and headwriter of “B&B,” believes that the Emmys have the ability to inspire members of the soap community to strive to be their best. “I think Emmys really do inspire all of the artists; sometimes it will be makeup or hair or the performers and writers,” he says, adding that it also inspires him. “It gets to be September, October, and I’m thinking, ‘Do we have Emmy shows?’ So there’s always a push at the end of the year for people who aren’t quite sure. But it’s wonderful in that respect, that it does drive people and inspire people to new heights.”

As previously reported, everyone loves CBS’ “The Young and the Restless” and the year-to-year growth in Total Viewers, Women 25-54 and Women 18-49 during the week of October 6-10, 2014 continues to prove that point. In addition to “Y&R,” CBS is experiencing overall growth with “The Bold and the Beautiful,” “The Price is Right,” “Let’s Make a Deal” and “The Talk.” In the case of “B&B,” the soap is seeing plenty of women enjoying the storyline surrounding Ridge Forrester (Thorsten Kaye) and Caroline Spencer Forrester (Linsey Godfrey) along with the happenings of Hope Logan (Kim Matula) following the recent revelation that she’s with child after a recent romp with one of the Spencer brothers. The soap is up 23% in Women 25-54 and 38% in Women 18-49 compared to the same week last year.
Per Nielsen Media Research ratings data, “Y&R” was up 5% in total viewers (4.74 million vs. 4.52 million), up 12% in Women 25-54 (1.9/13 vs. 1.7/11) and up 18% in Women 18-49 (1.3/09 vs. 1.1/08) compared to the same week last year. “B&B” was up 9% in viewers (3.68 million vs. 3.38 million), 23% in Women 25-54 (1.6/10 vs. 1.3/08) and 38% in women 18-49 (1.1/08 vs. 0.8/06).
“Let’s Make a Deal” was up 7% in viewers (3.00 million vs. 2.80 million), 13% in Women 25-54 (0.9/07 vs. 0.8/06) and 17% in Women 18-49 (0.7/05 vs. 0.6/04) for part 1, while part 2 was up 10% in viewers (3.57 million vs. 3.23 million), 11% in Women 25-54 (1.0/07 vs. 0.9/06) and 33% in Women 18-49 (0.8/06 vs. 0.6/05).

With a 2% gain in viewers (2.63 vs. 2.58 million) and a 17% gain in Women 18-49 (0.7/05 vs. 0.6/04), “The Talk” was even in Women 25-54 (1.0/06) compared to the same week last year. The talk show managed to match ABC’s “The View” in both Women 25-54 and Women 18-49. In viewers the CBS talk show finished with its closest competitive position to “The View” this season (2.63 million vs. 2.80 million for ABC’s “View”).
In a newly released promo for the week of February 8-12, 2016, Deacon Sharpe (Sean Kanan) is shown telling Quinn, “You are evil and manipulative, and you’re going to wind up in a padded cell” after he discovers that Liam Spencer (Scott Clifton) is being held captive by Quinn, who tells him that Liam deserves “something good” in his life. Quinn being that something good? Many would beg to differ.
You’ll recall that Quinn is currently holding Liam in her cabin and he has no memory of who he is. In fact, Quinn has even gone so far as to tell him that her name is Eve and his is Adam, referencing to the biblical characters, and that she is is wife! Being that Quinn has been nothing but “evil and manipulative” to Liam, it’s a wonder how and why she thinks she is the woman for Liam after all she’s done to keep him away from both Hope Logan (Kim Matula) and Steffy Forrester (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood).
Speaking of Steffy, she is shocked to hear Wyatt tell her he’d like to spend the rest of his life with her. With her relationship with Liam still uncertain, is the fashionista ready to move on with another walk down the aisle so soon?
Meanwhile, Caroline Forrester (Linsey Godfrey) wonders why her stepson, Thomas Forrester (Pierson Fodé), keeps putting her in a predicament that she seems to not be able to get away from months after their tryst led to an unexpected bond that Thomas isn’t even aware he’s a part of.
Kim Matula (ex-Hope Logan, “The Bold and the Beautiful”) has landed an “UnREAL” new role in primetime. The actress has been cast in the upcoming second season of the Lifetime drama that gives a fictitious behind-the-scenes look at the chaos surrounding the production of a dating competition series.
Matula will play one of the contestants on “UnREAL’s” fictional dating show, “Everlasting,” reports TVLine. Her character, Tiffany, is being described as a hot, smart and rich All-American girl, who is the daughter of a professional football team owner. Her hope is that her appearance on the show will help her step out of her father’s shadow.
Matula, who joined “B&B” in 2010, left the soap after four years in 2014 to pursue other career opportunities in primetime and film. She briefly returned to the show in 2015 to make two special appearances. Matula recently completed a lead role in the film “Maybe Someday,” which has just finished production.
Also joining the “UnREAL” cast next season is Meagan Tandy (“Teen Wolf”) as Chantal, a beautiful and polished Southern debutante, who thinks she’s destined to marry bachelor Darius Hill, after the tragic loss of her fiancé. Monica Barbaro (“Hawaii Five-0”) and newcomer Denée Benton are also playing bachelorettes vying for Hill, while Michael Rady (“Jane the Virgin”) has been cast as a filmmaker and Gentry White (“TURN: Washington’s Spies”) is portraying Hill’s cousin.
Season 2 of “UnREAL” is set to debut this summer on Lifetime.
Good news for Hope Logan fans. Kim Matula (Hope Logan) is heading back to “The Bold and the Beautiful.” However, it’s only for a short stint. The actress will return for one episode on Wednesday, March 16.
Soap Opera Digest first broke the news, but offered no particulars about how Matula will fit into the storyline.
Matula last appeared on the soap for two episodes in April 2015, when Brooke (Katherine Kelly Lang) tried to get Hope to stop Deacon’s (Sean Kanan) wedding to Quinn (Rena Sofer). The popular character was mentioned for the first time in months a few weeks ago. At the time, Quinn told her son Wyatt (Darin Brooks) that Deacon was in Europe visiting Hope.
Hope’s return could definitely stir things up in both Wyatt and Liam’s (Scott Clifton) worlds. Wyatt, after all, recently proposed to Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Woods). Might his ex-love Hope resurfacing give him second thoughts about committing to someone else?
As for Liam, who’s been suffering from amnesia, Hope would be the perfect person to trigger his complete memory recall. And, of course, she could also fill Liam in on who Quinn really is and reveal all the machinations she’s orchestrated against them in the past, putting an abrupt end to Quinn’s fantasy romance with him.
Since leaving “The Bold and the Beautiful,” Matula appeared in the film, “Maybe Someday,” which also features Alley Mills (Pamela, “B&B”). In addition, Matula has landed the role of Tiffany in the upcoming second season of the primetime hit, “UnREAL.” The Lifetime drama gives a fictitious, behind-the-scenes look at the mayhem surrounding the production of a dating competition reality series.
In one of the rarest of circumstances, CBS’ “The Bold and the Beautiful” announced on Twitter earlier this evening that actress Kim Matula (Hope Logan) will soon be departing the daytime drama series, just hours after Matula appeared live alongside co-stars Scott Clifton (Liam Spencer), Darin Brooks (Wyatt Fuller) and Ashleigh Brewer (Ivy Forrester) on the network’s daytime talk show, “The Talk.” Under normal circumstances the talent, or their representatives, would reveal departure news to the press or social media before the show was able to confirm casting updates.
“We wish #KimMatula the best as she moves on to other opportunities,” read the show’s tweet. “We love Kim & she will always be a part of the #BoldandBeautiful family.” There are currently no plans to recast the role of Hope, a rep for the show confirms.
Matula’s departure comes hot on the heels of the soap filming on location in Amsterdam, with the episodes set to begin airing on Friday, November 7, as the character of Hope Logan is currently embedded in the middle of one of the most popular love quadrangles to hit daytime in recent memory.
A last airdate for Matula is not yet known at this time, but with Hope pregnant with either Liam or Wyatt’s child, and it being the earliest stages of said pregnancy, it’s any wonder where the story may lead in the coming weeks and months.
